Through her works, contemporary artist Hanako Kimura shows how seemingly opposing concepts can be mixed and matched as inseparable things, and that there is a vast gray zone lying in between.
In @Same_Not_Same, we will exhibit the project of the same name, which includes photography, sculptures, and an Instagram account.
This project focuses on a product called LILLEPLUTT – a cat-shaped soft – sold by IKEA, a gigantic company with 445 stores in 59 countries around the world.
This adorable toy is mass-produced and sold as the same product all over the world. However, due to differences in the manufacturing process, no two are identical in appearance, and the price varies depending on the country or region where they are sold, giving them a different meaning to their owners.
Working in various Asian countries in 2019, Kimura attempts to engage with “individuals” in each country through this product and to explore the reality of this world of which they, and we, are a part.
